2. Yankee Doodle

This song is in the key of C major. The time signature is four beats per bar. You will need to be familiar with the notes on the first three strings and string four. The melody starts on the second string.

3. Mary Had a Little Lamb

To play this song, all you need to know is the G and B open Strings and notes A on string 3-second fret and D on string 2- third fret.

4. Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

This song is in the key of C major. The time signature is four beats per bar. You will need to be familiar with the notes on the first three strings. The melody starts on the second string. Another thing to notice about this song is D.C. al Fine, which means once you reach it start from the beginning and end the song on “Fine”. This is simply a shorthand in music.

5. She’ll Be Coming ‘Round the Mountain

The song “She’ll Be Coming ‘Round the Mountain” is a traditional American folk song. You will need to know the note E which is located on string four fret two. do not mistake this E for the one on string one, they are in different octaves and they look different on the staff. The song starts also with pickup notes. Count two empty beats and start the song on the third beat. Take care of the ties and the rests.

6. Frere Jacques

This is a French song which translated means “Brother John”. It is often sung as a round. A round is a song where several people can sing at the same time starting at different times.

Frere Jacques is two bar canon, meaning: the first player starts the piece when they reach bar three the second player starts from the beginning. You can play the entire song by using your right-hand thumb.

7. Happy Birthday To You

This is one of the most popular birthday songs in the world. It is sung in almost every country to celebrate the birthdays of friends and family.

8. Jingle Bells

This is one of the most popular Christmas songs in the world and is sung in many different languages. This song uses the note A on string one fret 5.

9. Oh When The Saints go marching in

Here you have to learn the notes on string one, E open string, F on fret one, and G on fret three. This song uses a lot of long notes, you may find it boring at the beginning to count those long minims and semibreves. But, be patient once you get the hang of it and speed up a bit, you will definitely enjoy this great tune. Notice that this song starts on the second beat of the bar the first bar is incomplete it has three beats instead of four. This is Anacrusis the missing beat of the starting bar is compensated in the last one. In this case, the last bar has only one crotchet rest.

10. Old McDonald had a Farm

This is a classic children’s song that is sung around the world. It is about a farmer and all the animals on his farm.
